Editorial Review:

Description:
Have you ever felt like you were too little to do anything big? That's how a little shepherd boy named Dave feels when his big brothers head off to defend their country, leaving Dave behind with the sheep. 'Big people do big things, and little people do little things,' they tell him. They're in for a surprise, though, when they find out their foe is much bigger than they thought! Is anyone able to take on a nine-foot pickle? But wait! Who's that running out to challenge that mighty warrior? It kinda looks like...could it be?...Dave?!?

In this hilarious retelling of the Bible story of David and Goliath, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber teach kids that it makes no difference whether you're nine feet tall or two feet tall. With God's help even little guys can do big things!

Amazon.com essential video:
Another winning video from the VeggieTales folk. To teach Larry the Cucumber about self-esteem, Bob the Tomato tells the story, slightly renamed, of David and Goliath. Jr. Asparagus plays the young man who wants to prove himself and will face the towering pickle. These adorable tales, brightly animated and containing bouncy songs, teach Christian-lite values in an entertaining way. Telling a single story (instead of the normal two), this 30-minute video goes on a bit too long, but it does contain the funniest entry in the 'Silly Songs with Larry' series: Love My Lips. --Doug Thomas

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great for the young and old
Worth updating to DVD the extras are great. Teaches kids that they can do anything even if they are small don't let that stop them.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Great Video for Young and Old
Love this dvd. My daughter is really into the veggie tales right now, so she enjoys watching this over and over. Also, she likes the music in it and often sings along. As a parent, I like the story, the message behind the story and the humor. I sit and watch it with her, too.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another Great Veggietales!
Veggietales are entertaining for the whole family. We own nearly every one of them. Highly recommended.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Little Guys Can Do Big Things, Too!
When Bob finds Larry pretending to be somebody with some real power, he decides it's time to share a story that will help Larry feel good about himself.

A long time ago, there was a boy named Dave (Jr. Asparagus). His job was helping his brothers look after the family sheep and keeping them from tipping over.

But when the Israelites go to war, Dave's brothers head off to fight. When the Philistines (the French Peas) suggest a fight of champions, they quickly agree. However, they are shocked to see Goliath, the giant pickle emerge. Dave volunteers to fight, but can he do it?

This is an early entry in the VeggieTales series, and tons of fun. The story is great with lots of gags for kids and adults. The moral, "With God, all things are possible," is very solid and worth hearing time and time again.

The main story takes up most of the disc. It is interrupted by a silly song, "Love my Lips." And, this disc is also notable for the introduction of Larry-Boy during the counter top scenes.

There's lots to love here, and fans both young and old will enjoy this unique take on a famous Bible story.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Easy to understand Bible stories for elementary age kids
I love the Veggie Tales series, and this title reinforced my opinion. The series simplifies Bible stories for kids ages 3-10, without losing the overall message. This easily answers questions about who Goliath was, and how in the world a little guy like David managed to slay him.
