Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - It works GREAT!
Tide Free is a specially formulated version of Tide detergent, made without dyes and perfumes. I have a son whose skin is sensitive, and have encountered quite a few detergents that make him break out or get itchy. Well, about a year ago I switched to Tide Free, and since then he has been outbreak-free!

And now, they have made a great product even better. This detergent is more concentrated, so you need less, and specially formulated to work with High Efficiency washing machines. Now, is this product hypo-allergenic, and guaranteed to produce no problems for anyone? I really don't think so. All I can say is that for me and my son, it works GREAT! We both highly recommend it!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Skin Sensitives? Beware!
We tried Tide "Free" because I have sensitive skin. A friend of mine, also with skin sensitivities, tried it too. I used the formula for regular machines, and she has the HE machine. We both found that this product causes a great deal of itching when we use it.

I hate to think what's in this "free" product that isn't in regular Tide, as I don't have a problem with it. I thought I'd be doing a good thing to get this product, as I'm trying to expose my kids to fewer chemicals. Unfortunately, I was wrong. We'll be sticking to Dreft (yes, I know it's the same company) with its different formula. It has a pleasant scent, cleans well, and is not irritating even with the light perfume it contains.

The only good thing I can say is that this product is good at cleaning. But you can spend less money getting regular Tide with the same or better results.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - doesn't get stains out!
Need advice on getting stains out with HE machine. Bought 1 based on CR recommendations- it was rated very good, plus has anti-vibration for 2nd floor (that part works). Does not remove stains. Is it the detergent? Used All HE, THAT WAS ACTUALLY BETTER than this TIDE 2X HE. This stuff didn't even get basic pizza stains out (in hot water) which had been pretreated with shout. Nothing has worked on a strawberry stain yet. I never had this problem with my (dead) top loader. help! Have 2 messy (2& 4) boys, cannot be throwing out all their clothes because nothing will clean them! Consumer reports, this is not acceptable! Be more rigorous/ true to life with your testing!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - HE detergent
This is a great product at a wonderful price and the convenience of delivery of the economy size, free shipping for the 'super saver' is best!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Cleaning Power, Now Without Chemical Scenting
I've been doing laundry FOREVER -- at least since I moved into a dorm -- and I have tried different detergents over the decades, and I have to say that none of them worked better than Tide. It gets out dirt and most stains very well, although I do occasionally supplement with Shout on the really nasty stuff, like chocolate, blood, and grease.

But that's my opinion and because it's not infallible, I took a look at what Consumer Reports had to say. Their conclusions are pretty much in line with my own. They did find one product that cleaned better (I've never even heard of it), but it was nearly twice as expensive and as a consequence I'm not inclined to seek it out wherever it might be hiding.

Besides Tide's cleaning power, I find that I also like that it does not have NPEs (Nonylphenol ethoxylates). NPEs are toxic to aquatic plants and animals. A fact even the EPA has had to recognize.

Another thing I like is that Tide doesn't fade the color of our clothes: This was a feature I didn't even recognize until I visited my friend this summer and noticed that even after one wash, with whatever bargain brand she was using, our shirts were noticeable faded and fuzzed.

As to why scent-free: I started using the low-suds version when we had to buy a new washer and decided to go 'green' in our selection. I soon after went scent-free when I discovered how many scents (lets face it scents are chemicals) were in our daily environment, and how they really weren't good for us. Particularly, those of us with allergies. The laundry seems to get as clean as with the scented variety, and the clothes come out smelling just wet.

Four Stars. Been doing laundry for decades and Tide seems to clean better than any other product I've tried. The scentless formula is exactly that. Other than the fact the stains are gone, I can't tell that the laundry is clean: it doesn't have a perfumed smell.
