Editorial Review:

Amazon.com essential recording:
The voice of Edith Piaf carries with it perhaps more national identity than that of any other recorded artist in the world. Tiny, frail, and tragic in her life, Piaf brought French identity to the rest of the world in a way that was understandable to all. Known as 'the Little Sparrow' in her country, her voice was strong, bold, and passionate, even as she grew more infirm. The archetypical torch singer, she had massive popular success with songs like 'Milord,' 'Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien,' and 'La Vie, L'Amour,' included here with 18 other classics. While this is a great compilation of some of her best material, the complete lack of enclosed notes or biographical material may frustrate those not familiar with her fascinating career. However, the work of one of the most original songbirds of all time speaks loud and clear for itself. --Derek Rath

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Le collection de Piaf est tres jolie et magnifique!!
I frankfully became a Francophile when I was introduced to the voice and artistry of Edith Piaf in my high school French class which made me love the language even more!!. The beauty of her voice and of her protege/lover Yves Montand converted me to other chanteurs of song like Gilbert Becaud. If you've recently seen the award winning movie on her life, "La Vie en Rose" with an Oscar winning performance from Marion Cotillard then this collection of her most famous songs is just the ticket. If you want to hear some of these songs sung in English by her, there is "An Hymn to Love". Either way, English or French, her voice was one of the wonders of the 20th century along with other singer/actress who was born the same year as she was-Billie Holliday!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Piaf's Greatness Comes Through
An excellent collection of some of her top hits. The tinniness of just one or two of the recordings does nothing less than add to the aura surrounding "The Little Sparrow."

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Edith Piaf still sings
To those who are not familiar with Miss Piaf's singing soon will become fans of this woman. The recent bio-pic "La Vie en Rose" has stirred interest in those who had not heard her before. They will be richly rewarded with this album. My favorite track is "Non, je ne Regrette Rien".

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Vive LaFrance, What a Beautiful Voice
Was not disappointed and in fact pleased to hear the voice of the sparrow, the music was great matching her superb voice. Thank you so much for taking me to France.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - voice of the sparrow - Edith Piaf
Just what I had been wanting! This is, in my opinion, the very best vocals of Edith Piaf. Her voice, the range and depth, to me, is like a wonderful instrument. I am very happy.

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.

But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.

Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
