Product Description:
A guide to eliminating stress and regaining your health.

Long-term stress can lead to numerous health problems, including intestinal inflammation, which only exacerbates the situation. The Stress Effect helps readers understand the connection between their chronic stress and illness, and provides effective programs for correcting imbalances and repairing the intestinal tract lining. It also offers suggestions for managing psychological stress; a commonsense diet that promotes balance; and a resource guide that directs the reader to doctors who are familiar with the range of therapies recommended.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Dr. Weinstein changed my life!I
I am a patient of Dr. Weinstein's and he and his book have changed my life. I am a much healthier and knowledgable person after having read his book. It really is beneficial to read this book if you find yourself caught up in life's journey so much that you have forgotten about your health. He can not control the events that bring on the stress but he does give you the tools to make your body healthier. He has relieved me of my dyspepsia as well as my sugar cravings and on top of that relieves my back pain.Any person struggling with a feeling of being overwhelmed, hormonal imbalances and/or in constant pain must read this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Best Roadmap to Treating Causes of Chronic Illness
BACKGROUND

I am a Ph.D. chemist. In my free time, I have been on a quest to find an overview on the cause of chronic diseases and how to practically treat them -- especially immune disorders (for example, allergies, arthritis, fibromyalgia) and blood sugar imbalances (for example, hypoglycemia, diabetes).

Here are some of the key books I have found over the past 4 years and where this book fits into that collection.

KEY BOOKS FOR HEALTH

The first book that actually helped was "Enter the Zone" by Ph.D. biochemist Dr. Barry Sears, which first taught me about how diet influences general health from a very scientific perspective and how to design your meals for ideal health. (The easiest way to implement it that I found was the book by nutritionists Gene & Joyce Daoust "The Formula".) This was the first book that provided an overview of how to try to practically control your biochemistry for health (for example, with this I was able to reduce hypoglycemia and chronic fatigue).

Another key book was by physicians Dr. Murray and Dr. Pizzorno "Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine" which indicated that organic thymus glandular can help normalize the immune system (for example, decrease the severity of your allergies).

The next book with practical advice that works (although I question the scientific validity of some of his explanations) is the book by physician Dr. Jordan Rubin "Heal Thyself" -- someone who brought himself back from the brink of death by following the information that he shares in this book. The major item mentioned that helped was the protocol with the RM-10 product (a mixture of Shiitake mushrooms, etc.) to try to restore blood sugar and immune balance (and helped decrease arthritis, along with taurine, glucosamine, and MSM).

The next great overview book was by physician Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum "From Fatigued to Fantastic", which provided comprehensive and specific information on how to treat fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue but from a big picture overview.

THIS BOOK: BEST COMPLETE RATIONAL EXPLANATION FOR CHRONIC ILLNESS

Perhaps the greatest of all of the books I found so far was this book.

Not only does it give a detailed link between stress and chronic disease but also provides concrete details on how to approach treating the disease.

In this book (that was well-researched in both the clinic and library in collaboration with conventional physicians and scientists), he managed to tie together several different key subjects -- stress, metabolism, natural medicine and chronic illness, creating a rational underlying explanation for chronic illnesses. (For example, he shows how stress can produce a hypothryoid condition.)

I should also say that I have been trying on and off in my free time for the past 4 years or so to do the same thing and had not yet been able to do so. This book successfully answers my key questions about the connection between stress and chronic illness.

I am grateful to Dr. Weinstein for sharing his years of experience in the clinic with the world at large. I now have a framework for understanding and trying to approach treating my own health issues.

In my opinion, if you have ANY kind of chronic illness (even those for which mainstream medicine claims there are no treatments), you should read this book. Properly implementing his suggestions should improve your health -- no matter how deteriorated it currently is.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A great book for anyone concerned with their health!
This book blew me away. Dr. Weinstein approaches his subject with energy, compassion, and wonderful humor. His no-nonsense approach to stress and health is both clear and persuasive. He explains a complex subject clearly and backs up his argument with solid research references throughout (the bibliography at the back of the book is impressive), yet the book is very easy to read. The link he draws between disease and high levels of stress hormones caused by poor diet, overuse of anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, aspirin, and the like), and other (reversible!) lifestyle factors is both irrefutable and damning. Dr. Weinstein isn't afraid to put the drug companies and the processed food industry squarely in his crosshairs.

This a practical book written by a practical man. His advice is both commonsense and easy to follow, and includes a resource list which can help you get personalized guidance. No 'chicken-soup' or 'don't sweat it' platitudes here, but hard, solid, well-researched advice. Sufferers of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, or any of a number of ailments should find this in this book the tools to change their life and the hope and the reason to do so. I strongly recommend this book to anyone!
