Editorial Review:Description:Organic Chemistry is a branch of chemistry that deals specifically with the structures, synthesis, and reactions of carbon-containing compounds. This organic chemistry tutorial will help you understand the various structures and reactions, as well as acids, bases, nomenclature, alkene and cycloalkene conformations, functional groups, Markovinkov's Rule, hydroxylation reactions and cis- and trans- isomers. The Organic Chemistry Video Box includes Organic Chemistry Parts 1-3 at a 15% discount.

Worth getting
Having watched these, Taken organic chemistry I and II, and watched these again, I must say these videos do a very good job.
They are a bit jumpy, quick, and sometimes not as in depth as I'd like, these videos covers most of what you get in ochem I.
My only quip... They leave out radical chemistry which I think they should add as an additional reaction to cover.
First watching these, I was lost but it was good exposure to the ideas. After taking ochem I and II... I realize these pretty much compress the ochem into 3 videos (or 14 dvds :P ) and do it rather well. (other than radical chemistry).
I'd recommed as a prep to ochem, and as a better review once you've taken ochem.

Ok for the first semester....where's the rest?
Covers the theory and mechanisms well enough to be an introduction and quick review, and helps when all the textbook seems to be doing is put you to sleep. However it only covers (and perhaps this is only true at this university, although I doubt it) the first semester of orgo. It covers alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes well, but barely (if it all for some of them, and even when it does, does not cover enough reactions) covers the second semester topics like carboxylic acids, aldehydes, alcohols, ketones, phenols, amides, esters, etc which tend to be the parts of the course where people are more likely to see their grades fall. Might be ok if there were a volume 4, 5, and 6 on the way to supplement.

NEVER KNEW LEARNING COULD B SO FUN!
THOUGH THE COVERAGE DID NOT NEARLY COVER ALL D TOPICS IN ORGANIC 2, THEY DID MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR ORGANIC 1. I TOOK THE COURSE THE VIDEOS ARE SIMPLY THE BEST INVESTMENT I HAVE MADE EDUCATIONALLY IN A LITTLE WHILE- PROFESSOR+, AT YOUR HOME. REVIEW THEM 2-3X
AND TAKE THE COURSE. U WILL NOT ONLY ACE THE DREADED ORGO. U WILL BE WELL ROUNDED AND PREP. TO TAKE UP GREATER CHALLENGES IN ADVANCE CHEMISTRY- U WILL KNOW THIS STUFF. AT THE END OF THE DAY THIS IS WHAT MATTERS. I NEVER KNEW TEACHING COULD BE SO FUN!

Well done but very limited coverage
These tapes cover less than the first month of the first semester of a standard organic chemistry sequence. The coverage is shallow and schematic but accurate. The excellent production ultimately fails to transcend the dullness of the almost unavoidable rote memorization approach to introductory organic chemistry. Of very limited use to students, and no use to those seeking a quick review of the subject.

Basic Organic Chemistry made Simple
These tapes are Entertaining as well as Simple, Clear, and to the Point. I thought these tapes were very helpful for anyone wanting to understand more about organic chemistry. I'm a chemist and I intend to share this and other tapes published by the Standard Deviants with my technicians at work to help them better understand their work in the laboratory!!
