Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Stick to cross-over
Yes, I know 3 of these wonderful voices are trained for the opera, but putting the 4 of them together on a 'truly' operatic simply doesn't work. In addition, throwing in a non-tradional music background to an operatic piece is gastly, but I don't agree it can't be sung in another language. When listening to a CD of anyone group I like it to be somewhat of the same type of music and throwing in the opera and the upbeat Spanish sounding 'Angelina' doesn't work. Finally, I realize the 4 men have come to believe; or at least it is my opinion that they do, that ending on a strong blast from all 4 is their signature, but if so this needs to be re-thought. I was so excited about this latest CD as I love the others, but this one is 'all over the map' and frankly I'm sick of Carlo's bellowing.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - IL DIVO THE PROMISE
THIS WAS MY FIRST SAMPLING OF IL DIVO AND I REALLY ENJOYED THEM. THEIR RENDITIONS OF HALLELUJAH AND AMAZING GRACE ARE SUPERB!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Sweet, sweet music
I had not listened to or heard of Il Divo before, but I received a CD in the mail and was asked to review it. Wow, what a great listening experience. Their music is able to transend language barriers---it did not matter to me that I only understood about 5% of the words. This cd is very soothing and relaxing. I can't believe how much I enjoy listening to them. Honestly, I found 'The Promise' simply outstanding. I enjoy all types of music and am so glad that Il Divo found its way to my door.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - IL DIVO - The Promise
There is more range to their performances of the songs, and the type of song is more diverse. There seems to have been a subtle shift in the dynamics within the group, and to me anyway, they appear to have gelled more as a group. I haven't heard a song they have performed that I didn't like, and their rendition of the songs on this new CD certainly does not disappoint.

While "The Promise" is better than Il Divo's last album "Siempre", it's still not "great". Once you play the first few songs through a couple of times, the songs seem to blend together and there is a boring similarity and a sad lack of original songs. It seems to be an awkward split of Il Divo standard "take a pop song and belt it out with an operatic twist" and very classical pieces...

I happen to like the songs mid way and on.. it 's a nice album, great for having some wine and just relaxing but to keep on playing it? maybe I have to play it a few more times to get the REAL FEEL of it.

are they really just cardboard cut-outs with nice voices and pretty faces??

Well as a woman they are very easy on the eyes and you can feel the testostrone coming at you from every angle...I have seen them perform (not live) but they do have that certain something...so even if their viewers are mostly female,we can use a pick me up in the bad times that we live in..

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A promise not kept
The "Il Divo" are back , but let's be serious, who needs another version of "Adagio" ? Haven't we had enough ? The rest is no better.
