Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Think twice before ordering subscriptions
It is now 9 weeks since I ordered a subscription to THE ECONOMIST through Amazon. I have not yet received my first issue, yet my credit card was charged immediately. Order direct from THE ECONOMIST and you will get your first issue within 2 weeks for the same price, and payment is not due until after you have received your first issue. THE ECONOMIST is a fine magazine. However, beware of their billing department. In my case, they tried to bill twice for the same subscription.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - In depth and original, yet dull
"The Economist" is a scholarly news magazine with a focus on the economic side of things. It streams in each week with many overlong articles. You could dedicate an entire evening or two reading the magazine cover to cover, but you probably wouldn't want to. Many of the articles aren't of general interest, but may be up the alley of a macroeconomist. The publisher appears to long for a globalized free-market world. A good magazine for some, perhaps, but not for many, I would say.

I would recommend "The Week" and "U.S. News and World Report" instead of "The Economist."

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Magazine is great. Amazon/Synapse delivery is lousy.
I ordered The Economist thru Amazon/Synapse on May 24. I am writing this review on Aug. 6, and I still haven't received my first issue of this subscription. After I got into the online order process I saw a note saying start of delivery would take 4-6 wks. I thought that was a long time, but I decided to go ahead with the order anyway. Eight wks later when my first issue still hadn't shown up, I called Synapse to follow up. The next week (July 27) they sent me an email saying my order had been lost, and they were resubmitting it. Allow another 4-6 weeks. Save yourself unnecessary hassle--order your magazines directly from the publisher.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Economist
I can't review this yet since I have not yet received it -- in fact can you assist in finding out when i will recieve it? The order was placed on 7/02/2008

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best English-language news magazine in the world
I have been reading The Economist for 15 years and absolutely love it. It has the best concise coverage of news around the world. Its business and economics coverage caters well to my interest in both. I recommend The Economist to any educated intelligent reader who wants to be informed of all major political and business developments around the world in a concise weekly format.

Alienware's flagship gaming laptop, the Area-51 m9750, has plenty of appeal for high-end gamers, but the alien head aesthetic seems dated, and newer components are right around the corner.
