Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Low quality image and sound
This system suffers from extremely low quality video and sound. The video is frequently filled with enough static that it makes it difficult to see the baby. Second, the sound is also very low quality - this is over about a 30 foot transmission distance. Distances of 60 feet or so across the house render the unit unusable. Raising the sound level high enough enable hearing the baby noises brings with it an intolerable level of static. Furthermore, bursts of interference become headsplitting.

These might be forgivable if the unit were very portable, but its not. The form factor is awkward and not very stable on a table. The battery life is very short - and that with 4 AA batteries, and the cord for the plug simply needs another 8 inches.

While it is very nice to be able to switch between day and night mode, this can only be done on the camera itself. Invariably, you end up moving the camera completely out of position to do so. And if you forget to toggle the switch from night to day before you put the baby down, you are just out of luck.

Ergo - not recommended for use as a baby monitor!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - satisfied
After reading reviews, I knew I would still need an audio monitor, and I do. This model has too much static. But the video is great and we are stretching the distance at which it was supposed to work - opposite ends of the house and upstairs versus downstairs. I would recommend it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great for Alzheimer's monitoring.
I bought this setup, the battery for the monitor, and an extra camera. It works very well for monitoring my mom (who has Alzheimer's) at night. Infrared images are good, as is reception. Interference from the microwave, but not a problem.

It seems from the negative reviews I read, most had trouble with reception with other wireless things, routers and the like, but all I have is the microwave and a cordless phone (no problems), so I like the product very much.

I'm going to get a third camera.

I'm very satisfied!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Product didn't work.
I purchased this wireless video monitor unit with an additional camera, and after about 2 days, the entire system stopped working. I work in the motion picture industry as a cameraman, so I kind of understand how to set up something like this -- yes, everything was plugged in, turned on and tuned correctly. They system worked fine for a couple of days, after that, I would plug it in and get an image for a few minutes, then static. No matter what channel I was using, or what function I had the remote in, it didn't work. So I returned the system and was issued a refund. It all turned out alright in the end, but I did spend a few hours of my life setting that system up -- hours that I'll never have back.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Peace of mind.
SVAT GX5201 Wireless Portable Video Monitor with 2.5-Inch LCD & Night Vision Security Camera (Color)

This product has been a Godsend to me. Although it was designed as a baby monitor I have used it to keep track of my herd. Instead of running to the barn every 2 hours to check on pregnant does, I can check the monitor to see if there is any activity and be well prepared for it.
It has been a very useful tool and the sound alerts are also extremely helpful. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for peace of mind. The portability of the monitor, also makes life simpler. This product is very versatile! There is occasional disruption by using a microwave, so put the monitor in a room other than the kitchen, or keep the microwave use to a minumum when checking it. You won't be disappointed by this product!
