Product Description:
The Pioneer AVIC-F700BT car stereo combines a multitude of functional entertainment capabilities with advanced navigation features that fit and expand the lifestyle of today's driver. The highly sophisticated in-dash navigation systems enable users to link and control their personal devices through optional accessories. Apple iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, MSN Direct, HD radio, XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio, single CD, DVD video playback and compressed audio and video playback through USB and SD memory devices are among the numerous capabilities. Additionally, the unit offers an advanced conversational voice recognition system for hands-free dialing of compatible Bluetooth enabled cell phones and control of an entire music collection on an iPod player.

It also includes a USB interface for quick connection to iPod music players, portable media players and USB memory device. For extra convenience, SD memory filled with additional Points of Interest information or compressed audio and video, slides directly into the SD card slot located in front of each unit. When any external device is plugged in, the systems will instantly recognize the source allowing users access and control through the touch panel display and/or voice control (iPod only). Pioneer also added a mini-jack A/V input on the face of each unit for immediate connection to other portable devices, such as camcorders and video players.
The system utilizes flash memory to obtain quicker mapping information and allow an ?always on? navigation state. The comprehensive map database from Tele Atlas covers the entire United States, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii enabling users to route to millions of destinations. The database includes more than 12-million points of interest (POI), for destinations such as gas stations, ATMs, hotels and restaurants which can be easily searched either near a current location, or close to a specified destination.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - OnStar
I don't have a review of this product, yet, I have a question regarding Onstar service. I plan on installing this item in my 08 GMC Sierra p/u but my question is, will it interfere with the OnStar service. I understand OnStar uses the radio to operate and I haven't yet read or have been told if this radio works in concert with OnStar. Can anybody help me with this, or am I worried about nothing? Thanks

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - dissapointing
The unit takes a nearly two minutes to boot up completly!! the bluetooth disconnects every two minutes from my blackberry, when I called the company they said "sorry, we havnt been able to make the avic stay connected to blackberry" the guy said that they havnt smoothed out the software glitches yet!! this unit seemed very apealing based on write up and specs. Unfortunatly using the the unit is a dissapointment.

cant use it for calls... what a waste

HEY PIONEER, PLEASE SMOOTH OUT THE GLITCHES BEFORE YOU RELEASE A PRODUCT.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing once you install the firmware upgrade
Pioneer has acknowledged that the first release of this system had issues ... freezing up, parking break warning for no reason, lack of proper brightness, etc. But they issued an upgrade in July of 2008. THIS UPDATE FIXES EVERYTHING.
I have this unit, I used it before the update (lots of problems -- all clearly explained in multiple posts all over the internet). But I downloaded the firmware, installed it, and now it works AWESOME. I truly have to give it to Pioneer for acknowledging their error and spending time to listen to owners and fix it.
I love this unit. I hook up my Iphone 3G and watch podcasts, listen to music, and everything. I have SM radio for it and I use the GPS all the time. I use the bluetooth with my iphone and the call clarity is fantastic.
I'm serious when I say this is a great value and much better than the D3 unit it replaced, but you have to install the firmware. Do that and I'll love it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not bad for the price
I put this unit in my car 2 weeks ago. I received a unit with the firmware update already installed so I never experienced most of the issues other reviews have complained of. There is still about a 90 second boot time before you have control of the functions. But, whatever audio source you were using when you last had the radio on starts playing after about 10 seconds so it's not like your sitting in your car in silence for the initial 90 seconds. The long boot time really hasn't bothered me too much.

I have the Ipod interface cable installed and it works very well. Occassionally, I will get an error message that the connection failed but I just unplug it and plug it back in and it works fine. Pretty cool having all the content from my Ipod on the radio's screen. Video works well too.

I installed the HD radio module. It was easy to install and the radio quality is pretty good, but not awesome. There is also a glitch where it doesn't display the channel on the preset tabs so you have to know what channels correspond to each preset. I hear that Pioneer is working on another firmware update to correct bugs that weren't fixed the first time. Hopefully, they will correct this issue. Right now, there is a $50 rebate through hdradio.com until the end of september I believe. As far as I can tell, it doesn't matter which retailer you buy the unit from to get the rebate.

The navigation does the job. I have the same complaints as a lot of other people which primarily is that the 2 blue navigation boxes stay on the screen even when they are not being use AND when you are in 2D mode the map always points north and not the direction you are traveling.

I'm still not sure how I feel about the bluetooth. My phone takes over 2 minutes to connect which is a bit of a problem. My old Parrot unit connected in about 10 seconds. The calls sound good on my end but I get complaints that it's hard to hear me on the other end. I still need to go through the system settings to see if there is a microphone volume setting. I also have a problem the saved contacts. Each contact on my phone can have multiple numbers but the screen on the radio only gives you access to one. Also, the voicedial seems to assign "general" to all of my contact's numbers instead of "home", "work", "mobile", etc. Again, I hope Pioneer fixes this with their next firmware update.

I paid $600 for the unit with free shipping and no sales tax from an authorized Pioneer dealer on Amazon. For the price, I got a whole lot of radio and I love it despite the bugs. No regrets!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My daughter love this unit
I purchased this unit for my daughter's Honda Civic, and WOW she just loves it. I had it installed to work with the existing steering wheel functions and added the IPod adapter which is installed in the glove box. She just plug it in and used voice commands to access her music and podcasts (this uses the same software as the Ford/MS sync systems). As far as the bluetooth, I was amazed how quite it is when I called her I had to ask where she was because it was so quite and clear. The vice commands work real well and the sound is very good for a car audio system. This unit does not have the DVD the ft700 has the cd player. I guess I do not understand why someone needs a dvd player in the front seat angeled toward the driver.Anyway this does everything I need to make sure my daughter is watching the road and not messing with the, music, the phone or directions.

Update Pioneer Just released a free firmware update 7/21/08

Re: Free Firmware Update for AVIC-F90BT, AVIC-F900BT & AVIC-F700BT

This firmware update applies only to models sold in the U.S.

Pioneer has become aware that users of the AVIC-F90BT, AVIC-F900BT and AVIC-F700BT may experience issues with one or more of the following: navigation voice guidance sound quality and reading of guidance information; brightness of display screen; Bluetooth sound quality and hands-free calling; parking brake warning; cataloguing time for voice recognition of iPod content; song order within an album for iPod content; playing of MP3 music files for USB content; volume control for USB and SD content; and, Spanish and French mode operation with an iPod and with navigation voice guidance.

The free firmware update is intended to address these issues and improve the overall performance of the AVIC-F Series systems. In addition, a separate CD-ROM containing a revised operation manual will be provided as part of the update process. The firmware update, however, does not address reported concerns regarding the length of boot up times. As is the case with other computers, the length of time to boot up an AVIC-F Series system is largely due to the numerous demands (navigation, entertainment, information, connectivity, compatibility, etc.) placed upon it.
