Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good drug reference except for the "self destruct" function
The electronic version of the PDR is more convenient than hauling a huge book around, however you should be aware that the CD-ROM "expires" and will cease to function after about a year. This "auto destruct" function is supposedly to protect against the risks of using outdated information, however it seems as likely it is in place to ensure a revenue stream for Thomson publishing; all the printed PDRs obviously don't disintegrate into dust a year after publication.

One plus side however, the CD-ROM includes much more information than the printed book including:

The PDR Main Edition (the main volume, what most people mean when they say "PDR")
The PDR for Nonprescription Drugs, Dietary Supplements, and Herbs
The PDR for Ophthalmic Medicines
The PDR Drug Interactions and Side Effects System

If you are considering purchase, be aware the 2009 version will be published on December 1st, 2008 (ISBN-10 1563637413).

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - critical review
The PDR 2008 suffers the same inexcusable omissions present in the other PDRs published in recent years. For example, important drugs in various classes from analgesics (methadone) to anorexiants are omitted entirely especially if the drug went generic decades ago. Cost-effectiveness as reflected in number-needed-to-treat is also a wide-spread omission in analysis of the drugs discussed( e.g. Fosamax number-needed-to-treat 83, cost effectiveness ~$223,000 to prevent 1 hip fracture). It is a shame that one has to literally collect old PDRs from used-book thrift store to find drug information published in editions from previous decades, where those drugs are not to be found current editions. Extensive, in-depth analysis of certain drugs like Zoloft regurgitates out-dated information and ignores not-so-recent published data about it's reuptake inhibition of dopamine or norephinephrine equivalent to that of methylphenidate). It is unfortnately seeming more and more another veiled, vehicle of pharmaceutical industry advertisement.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good Price.

A really good price for this book. I'll be back for sure.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Big Bang for the Buck!
This PDR is a great value. Most PDR's cost 3X this one. Plus you get the information on a CD ROM, too. My husband was thrilled with this gift.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - PDR
Extremely pleased...in excellent condition for an used book, especially one of this type, which are normally used often by an owner; the pages appear brand new.
