Editorial Review:Product Description:The Departure packs offer women's and men's sizing and design for urban adventure travel. In this unique design, instead of attaching the daypack to the outside of the travel pack, it zips to the back side and becomes the primary suspension. This detachable daypack is large enough to carry your laptop and other heavy gear comfortably all day. The detachable StraightJacket sidewall cargo compartment keeps your clothing and toiletries safe, separate and organized. Quickly zip either the 60 or 75-liter apart as you board the plane and you'll meet most carry on requirements. Not good for travel
Pretty nifty looking design, AWFUL experience. If you do buy it, try it out around the house first. It's cool how the backpack zips out, but I agree with S.Butts, it is HEAVY when packed (moderately). I took a trip to Spain and ended up buying a shopping basket with wheels to cart it around, ultimately giving it to my host and buying a suitcase in Madrid. Most basic flaw: The straps don't support the size and weight of the pack. I'm 6'2 200lbs, and I bought the "medium".

Think twice.
I would think twice before purchasing this pack. The photos are deceiving. My fiancé and I took them on a two week trip to Europe and they were awful. HEAVY (and we didn't pack THAT much) and CUMBERSOME. They also stick out really far and it's hard to get on and off of the metro etc etc...
Do yourself a favor and get a pack/suitcase with rollers.

Fantastic bag, clever contrusction
I bought these bags having never tried them on or seen them in person. I did a lot of research and settled on the Osprey Departure because of the harness system. We loved that there was no need to check any baggage going overseas since the daypack was perfect in size for carry on underseat storage and the cargo pack zipped off and stowed in the overhead bins.
My only complaint about the bag is the rubber handle on the cargo pack can be uncomfortable to carry for extended periods of time. Otherwise, hiking with the packs attached together was comfortable and the waist belt was very supportive.
Plenty of inside pockets and hidden pockets for travel documents.
I'm very happy with my purchase.
