Amazon.com Product Description:
The Midland LXT330VP3 22-Channel 16-Mile GMRS 2-Way Radio Pair Pack with Rechargeable Batteries and Charger represents the state-of-the-art in high-tech engineering, for a compact package that is big in performance. Skillfully constructed with the finest components, the Midland LXT330 is built with all solid-state circuitry mounted on a rugged, printed circuit board to provide you with reliable and trouble-free performance for years to come.

The Midland LXT330 radio provides you with 22 GMRS/FRS (General Mobile Radio Service/Family Radio Service) UHF channels, and up to a 16-mile range in open territory. And while most GMRS channels require an FCC license to operate, channels eight through 14 are low-power FRS channels that are license free. These powerful radios have an easy-to-read LCD display that shows you channel and other relevant radio status information at a glance, and a large easy-to-use keypad on the front for one-touch access to important features.

The LXT330 radio is full of features such as a call alert to notify your intended receiver of incoming traffic, a channel scan to locate activity, and an auto squelch to filter out weak signals. This unit provides both High and Low power settings, so you can choose to maximize transmission distance or save power. The LXT330 also features keystroke tones, a roger beep that confirms transmission conclusion, and a silent operation for quieting beeps, tones and alerts when you can't afford to make extra noise.

Midland's LXT330 radio is constructed to be water resistant, so it can be used in most any environment, and has a keypad lock to avoid accidentally changing the radio settings. This radio runs on a Midland 4.8-volt rechargeable NiMH battery pack that can be recharged while in the radio, or can be powered by four AAA batteries during extended trips. This unit also includes a battery life extender function, as well as a low-battery indicator so you never get caught offguard without power. The LXT330 comes with a speaker/microphone/headset/charging jack so you can use it with an external speaker or microphone, or a pair of headphones, and recharge your battery pack when not in use. The Midland LXT330VP3 pack comes with two radios, each with a belt clip for convenient carrying or hands-free use, as well as two rechargeable NiMH battery packs, an AC wall adapter, and a dual radio desktop charger. These radios are even backed by a manufacturer's three-year warranty.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A good reason to buy midland's radios....

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Got the job done
My family used these for my several hundred-mile move -- one in the car, one in the moving truck. We were rarely out of sight of each other, so I can't say much about the range of the radios, but the signal was usually clear. We saved quite a bit on cell phone charges, and the radios were certainly more effective than hand signals.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect for my family.
I got these for Christmas for my 4-year-old to play with, but kept them for myself! HA! They're so great! We use them in all those situations when cell phones don't work or are just impractical. They're just so handy! I admit that we've probably never gotten 16 miles apart with them, so I can't attest to the distance reaching quite that far. But we've never lost our signal between radios -- ever. The controls are easy. The sound is very clear. And the charge lasts a very long time. I forgot about mine and left it on for a week, once, and it was fine. I even used it for a few more days before I put it back on the charger.

I'm very satisfied with this. I'm even putting another set on my wish list so we can have more than two radios!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great product
I bought two sets of these and setting them up was simple. They work well and are easy to use. So far they have put up with abuse and are convenient to carry. The batteries last for more than a full day of use. The sound is clear and the call feature is very useful.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Works Great
These radios were purchased for a large church facility used to communicate with the custodian. They replaced existing battery sucking ones and have been a joy to use.

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
