Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Okay for kid, not for serious singing !!
Counter points:
:
(1) compact, (2) light weight, (3) easy to carry to picnic and hook up to ac/dc inverter, (4) not expensive at least than $70.00, (5) also come with a lyric screen and a mic and a cassette player/recorder., (6) the mic picks up voice pretty well, no need to turn the mic volume all the way to here the singer's own voice., (7) echo, active voice control work well, (8) hooking to TV screen is easy or to other audio systems is easy too.
:
(1) The 5 watts output is apparently too little. In open picnic area, you need a better one with at least 10 watts output.
(2) If you sing along the songs and if you sing too loud or with high pitch, the CD+G player sudden pauses for a few seconds, perhaps to avoid resonance effect.
(3) It only comes with one mic., some other system by Memorex comes with 2 mics.
(4) Sound quality is only so-so.
(5) No DVD or VCD format, only CD+G or CD or CD-RW
Recommendation: buy only for under $60.00 on sale, or for kids for singing in a small room or even in a compact car.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - a waste of money :(
We bought this for chrismas. It works fine. But for Karaoke You are MUCH better off with a Different machine. We will have to return ours and get a better quality one, But now we know what to look for. 1st, it only comes with 4 songs! Biggest problem. So, you have to buy other cd's to sing ($10-20), adds up quick! 2nd, volume levels are bad. 3rd, screen was fine, BUT we hooked it through our t.v. anyway, because you can read much better on the bigger screen, its easier and more fun. the little screen is really just for the kids. 4th you need someone to work the controls on the machine, but other machines may also need this, until remote controls come with! that will be great. We want a karaoke machine with more songs, i have seen them with 50 songs, out of the box! making it much more useful right away. where we only had the 4 songs(and out of those, only one each kid liked!), so we had to go BUY more! this machine can quickly become a very pricy machine due to this reason. i would not recommend-- we were frustrated.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - This system leaves much to be desired
I bought this system for my 6 year old son for Christmas. It worked for a few minutes and looked to be a descent investment. After a couple of uses the microphone developed a short and all you could hear was the crackling of the microphone. Target didn't have another machine in the entire metroplex for exchange or a microphone that would work. The system was disappointing and so was my experience with Target's service staff.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - family fun
We have been very pleased with this purchase. We did not experience any of the problems the other reviewer reported. Obviously hers was defective. My 6 year old grand daughter had no problem operating the unit. We have used it non-stop and loved every musical minute. It is easy to set up, easy to operate and easy to store! Big thumbs up!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Don't waste your money!
This machine is TERRIBLE. The instructions are messed up - they DO NOT tell you how to start/connect the system...but it gives you "optional" connection instructions if you want to hook it up to your TV instead of using the mini screen on the actual machine. The words didn't appeared on the screen, so I called the customer service at Memorex. They couldn't figure out why it didn't work, finally said that the monitor itself is probably defective and that I should return in to the store. When I return it, I will upgrade to a better system because the speakers on this are bad - sounds like you are in a tin can. Really, I can't say anything good except for the sale price when I got it ($38.00 or so).
