Amazon.com Review:'To tell you the truth, you can learn the basics of meditation in five minutes,' asserts Stephan Bodian, meditation instructor, psychotherapist, and former editor-in-chief of
Yoga Journal. You can also study meditation for years, exploring its subtleties.
Meditation for Dummies is a simple, clear introduction to the basics of meditation, including an overview of dozens of techniques, practices, and specific meditations, plus direction for going deeper. You get step-by-step instructions for a variety of meditations, including body position, mental concentration, where to put your attention, what to contemplate or notice, physical movements, and breathing. A nice touch is the recurring 'traditional wisdom': ancient stories or anecdotes that make a point. This book is useful whether you want the nuts and bolts for getting started in the next minute or you want to dip your mind into different practices and philosophies. Nothing is too elementary to explain: 'how to sit up straight--and live to tell about it,' what to wear, dealing with fear and self-judgment, and what to do when you get 'stuck.' You also get plenty of information about the benefits and varieties of meditation. You're bound find and develop a practice that feels right for you.

GET THIS ONE!
GET THIS ONE! This is a must have if you're interested in meditation as a compliment to hatha yoga. If you're like me you'll start to learn quiet a bit about yourself and maybe take a serious look into Buddhism. The CD is also a perfect compliment to the book. Soon you'll look forward to these special times to look into yourself. Thank You Mr. Bodian.

Meditation for Dummies
This book was a required text for a class I took recently. Before reading it, I had discounted the book for some reason. Maybe because it was a 'dummy' book. I could not have been more wrong. It is formatted in an easy to read, fun layout. You can choose to get a basic overview of the section, or delve a little deeper. I was surprised at the accuracy and volume of information. Note that this is an excellent resource for a person just starting meditation or for someone who is blocked and needs a little 'oomph' to get back on track.

Meditation for Dummies
This was a great beginners book that came with a bonus CD for learning the art of meditation. I found it very helpful with setting the right environment that worked best for me, how to clear my mind for the best meditation experience, and suggestions on various positions that can work for anyone regardless of age or physical ability. Great value.

There are better books
I found this book to be highly superficial, not really develing into the various meditative approaches (which any beginner like me can do). Also, the key points were fragmented within the chapters, making it hard to follow the issue/approach to meditation.
I found Jack Kornfields audio CD "Meditation for Beginners" to be quite excellent and I recomend as a first endeavour into meditation.
