Customer Reviews

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Defective battery....charged a restocking fee
The battery would not charge and would not power the Canon 1100IS. It was the battery recommended by Amazon. The camera does work when the Canon battery is inserted. Either the battery was defective, or it was the wrong one for the Canon 1100IS. Either way, I should not have been charged a restocking fee.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Identical to the Canon battery?
I ordered one of these batteries as a backup to the Canon battery that came in the box with my Canon Powershot SD1100 IS, at the same time I ordered the camera.

Although the Canon battery, according to the writing on the shell, was made in Japan, and the Lenmar in China, they seem to be almost identical except for the tiniest variations in color of plastic and molding marks.

Both batteries are rated 3.7V and 760mAh. I put a digital multimeter on both batteries at full charge, and both read exactly 4.15V, which is about what would be expected.

There are batteries available with a higher mAh rating, but there's no iron-clad guarantee that they will hold a charge better, last longer, or even take more pictures on a charge, regardless of price. And even the best batteries will have a few duds in the batch, as a minority of these reviews reflect.

I could have done a test on how many pictures each will take on continuous shooting, but I will wait until both are "broken in" or conditioned... discharged and charged several more times. Then I will edit this review with the results.

I have discharged both batteries a couple of times while testing every feature of the camera, and I didn't note any problems or perceive any significant differences.

My camera should recycle the flash in about 3 seconds on a fresh battery. The Lenmar seems to be about 10% slower than the Canon, which amounts to a few tenths of a second. For one fourth the price, I can live with that.

For my Powershot, Canon advises not leaving the battery in the charger for more than 24 hours... as mentioned by another reviewer, it's not a good thing, regardless of protective circuitry in the charger or battery.

The battery will fully charge in 90 minutes, and there's no benefit in leaving it in the supplied charger after the green light goes on.

Tip; "Keep the battery terminals clean at all times. Dirty terminals may cause poor contact between the battery and camera. Polish the terminals with a soft cotton swab before charging or using the battery" (Canon manual).

So far, this battery seems like a good deal to me. I'll give it five stars, but only time will tell if the original battery is superior. I like it enough that I placed an order for another one today, along with another 4GB SDHC card.

I believe that you have to take a lot of pictures to end up with a few really good ones, especially with a compact camera, and I would rather carry several batteries than rely on a car charger... too slow.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GREAT VALUE
Have used Lenmar products before and found them to be reliable and a good value, not the cheapest but the best value because of the quality.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Don't wash a battery with the laundry
Speedy delivery, after the first charge it lasted longer than any battery I've ever used, including the Canon... but then it got washed with the laundry and doesn't like being a battery any longer. I would definately buy this battery from this company (through Amazon) again... dumb me.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Just as good as the Canon Battery
I bought two of these batteries for my Canon IS1100. On a recent trip, we took over 200 pictures and about 15 minutes of video on one charge and the low battery indicator still did not come on. I did not expect much when I purchased them as I was going for the low price. However, after using them for a while, they seem to be just as good as the Canon battery. If you are looking for backup batteries, then this is a good purchase.

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
