Support Your Local Gunfighter

starring: James Garner, Suzanne Pleshette, Jack Elam, Harry Morgan, Joan Blondell
directed by: Burt Kennedy

: :James Garner returns for this pseudosequel to Support Your Local Sheriff, this time as a gigolo con man mistaken for a legendary killer. Escaping matrimonial entanglements, he lands in the town of Purgatory in the midst of a raging war between gold miners racing for the mother lode. In a play right out of Maverick, he quickly casts drifter Jack Elam into the gunfighter role and names himself the man's agent, selling his services to the highest bidder and pocketing a sizable commission. Garner double-talks his way through one deal after ...

Support Your Local Sheriff

starring: James Garner, Joan Hackett, Walter Brennan, Harry Morgan, Jack Elam
directed by: Burt Kennedy

: :While hardly the first Western spoof to ride out of Hollywood, Support Your Local Sheriff is easily one of the best. James Garner plays the confident, cool-headed cowboy who strolls into a wild gold rush town on the way to Australia and takes the job as sheriff. Like a parody of My Darling Clementine by way of Rio Bravo, he arrests the hotheaded but hopelessly confused son (Bruce Dern) of a ruthless ranching magnate (Walter Brennan). Stuck with a half-built jail (where he keeps his prisoner penned up with pure psychology ...

Siege (1998)

starring: Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, Annette Bening, Tony Shalhoub, Sami Bouajila
directed by: Edward Zwick

: :A high-profile action/exploitation thriller set in the present, The Siege is really a fantasy that extrapolates from major terrorist attacks. Denzel Washington is FBI special agent Hubbard, 'Hub' to his friends, whose anti-terrorist task force must track down the terrorist cells responsible for a spate of bombings in New York. His partner is an FBI agent of Arabian extraction (played convincingly by Tony Shalhoub), proving not all Arabs are bad guys--a point the film should be lauded for making again and again. Thrown into the mix is a CIA spy (played ...

She-Devil

starring: Meryl Streep, Roseanne, Ed Begley Jr., Linda Hunt, Sylvia Miles
directed by: Susan Seidelman

:Description:Someone stole her husband...and now there's hell to pay! Roseanne Barr puts a hilarious twist on the domestic goddess persona that made her a star, and Meryl Streep makes you marvel at [her] real comic witchcraft (Newsweek). She-Devil is a film that doesn't stop at mild-mannered prankster revengeit's a funny Fatal Attraction on steroids, with attitude, that's gone bad! Meet Mary Fisher (Streep). She's got it all: a cliff-side villa overlooking the ocean, a wholly satisfying career as a romance novelist...and Ruth Patchett's husband. And when Ruth (Barr) discovers that her ...

The Jackal

starring: Steve Bassett, Jack Black, Maggie Castle, John Cunningham, Richard Gere

: :The best way to enjoy this 1997 thriller is to forget the much better film that inspired it (1973's The Day of the Jackal) and get whatever kicks you can from this heavy-metal remake. It's not bad as hokey thrillers go, but all of the original film's suspenseful finesse has been traded in (not traded up) for bigger, bolder action and nonsensical plotting. It's as if Hollywood had forgotten to create excitement without resorting to overblown action and heavy hardware, but there's ample compensation in the casting of Bruce Willis and ...

Toll Gate

starring: William S. Hart, Anna Q. Nilsson, Joseph Singleton, Jack Richardson, Richard Headrick
directed by: Lambert Hillyer

: :William S. Hart was the first and arguably the most fascinating of silent-film cowboy stars. Hard and humorless, with a face that looked chiseled out of granite, he straddled the line between hero and criminal as the 'Good Badman' of silent Western cinema. In The Toll Gate (1920), directed by Hart regular Lambert Hillyer, he plays Black Deering, the leader of a train-robbing gang sold out by one of his own men. Deering escapes with revenge on his mind, but he's wounded and seeks shelter in the lonely cabin of an ...

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.
