Editorial Review:

Product Description:
When the word cheese is mentioned, most of us immediately think of France. We can't help it; it's a knee-jerk reaction. As excellent as are the hundreds of cheeses that originate from all corners of the globe, France is always the first country the comes to mind when discussing cheesemaking. Our French Cheese Assortment captures a good bit of French cheese culture with the four cheeses listed below. One is of the 'stinky' variety, one is a triple-crème, one is a chèvre, and one is a mountain cheese from the Alps. Buche Chevre: This classic French goat cheese is slightly aged, giving it a lot of character. Formed in the shape of a log (Buche is French for log), enjoy this cheese on salads, as a snack, or with fruit for dessert. Chaource: This decadent triple-creme is delicious at any stage of ripeness and has a slight mushroom scent with a rich, creamy flavor. Pont l'Eveque: This aromatic cheese from Normandy has a creamy, slightly spicy flavor. Pont l'Eveque has an edible reddish crust with a creamy, pale interior. It is an ancient cheese and truly one of the world's great ones. Gruyère de Comté: Created by local villagers in alpine dairies called 'Fruiteries', its milk comes only from Montbeliarde and Tachete de L'est cows. Each 70+ pound wheel of Comté is aged for at least six months, resulting in a sweet and nutty masterpiece!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Cheese must breathe
Cheese by post? Who heard of such a daft thing?! Cheese is alive...it must breathe....to wrap it in plastic and ship it is the act of a philistine!! Nobody who loves cheese and sells it would do this to it! It will arrive sweaty and slack.....the taste and texture will be compromised.

For the foreign stuff you'd be better off toddling along to your local Deli and see what they have....find a Mom & Pop operation and they will probably let you taste and try before you buy....and tell you all about the cheese into the bargain....online buying is NOT always best!! Buying cheese or wine in this way is barmy!! Taste is a vital part of choosing...you CANNOT 'blind buy' & expect a good result....support your local Deli I say!!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Hit and Miss
I received the four cheeses and was somewhat dissapointed because although I enjoyed 3 of the cheeses, only 2 of those 3 were meant to be served as a cheese platter (vs for cooking on the 3rd). The fourth was horrendous and I ended up throwing it away (4 other guests of mine tasted it and agreed that it was not good - we could all tell that it was not spoiled and that it was simply not a good choice for an assortment). I also agree that the assortment should have come with more information about the cheeses themselves along the lines of: You have selected this assortment, cheese names, background, taste descriptions, and serving suggestions (food and wine pairings both). All in all, one of the four cheeses was good enough to add to a watch out list so that I can hope to find it again while shopping at a local store.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent cheeses, ok service
The French cheese assortment is amazing. A selection of cheeses of a quality you cannot easily come by unless you have a great specialty gourmet store nearby. The Saint Andre is not my favorite type of cheese, but it is good on a nice loaf of crusty bread. The other cheeses in the selection are outstanding and I have received rave reviews from everyone I have served them to. Only negative is that they came extremely hot (even though they were in a cooler-type box with an ice pack that I assume had at one time been cold) and the softer cheeses were really melted. They still tasted great, but weren't as nice for presentation.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent cheese
The service from iGourmet is impeccable

Everything arrived in perfect condition i.e. ripe (and therefore "stinky" just like it should be!!)

The Styrofoam packaging was the perfect vessel for delivery; the cheese arrived "alive" from not being over chilled.

I have not had cheese of this quality outside France, and this is the first time I have found "perfect" cheese in the US.

If you like top quality "stinky" cheese this is for you.........

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Horrible service
The actual cheese is GREAT, if you can get them to ship to you. Ordered items as gifts - took over a week to ship. For timely gifts you would be better off going around the corner. Otherwise a great deal.

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
