REALLY Comfortable!
I bought these after hearing "the hype" and I have to say, they are the most comfortable shoes (flip-flop/sandals) I have ever worn. I live in Florida where I live in flip-flops most of the year. However, I've had foot problems from wearing flat flip-flops too often with no arch support. But these "FitFlops" are so comfortable to wear! I can walk a lot in them and feel no pain in my feet!
I don't know about the claim that they give your legs a workout. Mostly it just feels like you are wearing very easy-to-walk-in flip-flops, so you don't mind walking more...and that will give you a workout!

Comfy flip flop - not to much on the fit.
I bought these shoes for a trip to Disney World, thinking at hopefully make me feel like my MBTS do, but without all the bulk for Florida weather. I always buy new shoes for vacations and forget to break them in, which I have done again with the fit flop. Though they are super comfy in the soles, after a long winter of wearing snow boots, the "thong" part of the shoe, the part that goes between your toes, was a bit sore. After a couple of wears they broke in and I now wear them as much as possible. They do have some room, but I think that is the design of the shoe, I wear an 8 and it fits me fine.
I have had them for about a month and never really felt muscle soreness, not like when I wear my MBTs, but the comfort of the fit flop is amazing, plus I paid 50 bucks for them, so I figure I should get as much use out of them as possible. If you are looking to really work out your muscles just by wearing a shoe around for errands, I wouldn't suggest using the Fit Flop, it's not a quick fix to a having the time and energy to do actual regular exercise, though i wish it was!

surprise
I recently purchased a pair of these shoes. I debated about buying them because they are a little pricey, for the kind of shoe that they are.
However,I was very suprised when I put them on and started wearing them.
I was afraid because of the warning the come with, about breaking them in slowly. I decided to just go for it. I do have R/A in my feet so I need extra cushion so my feet don't hurt.I wore these for three days straight. A whole day of shopping, the next day to the museum, the third day to the zoo.
I didn't have any pain in my feet at all. It was so nice, usually after this much exercise I can hardly walk but to my surprise I was feeling wonderful.
As far as the exercise, when I changed back to my regular shoes I could really feel the difference in my legs and thighs. I wear these everyday now and am getting another pair in another color.

Love these flips
Have to say that these are the most comfortable fip-flops I've ever worn. I don't know yet if they are doing what the manufacturer claims but so far they are comfortable enough that I wear them very frequently. The only issue I have is that the strap going across the top of the foot is somewhat loose, but even that doesn't detract from the comfort. A little pricey for flip-flops but since regular ones are too thin to be comfortable for me anyway, I'd pay extra just for the thicker sole.

Comfortable, yes...Workout? NO.
FitFlops are all the rage everywhere as the latest fat-burning shoe. After reading numerous positive reviews on the internet, I decided to invest in a pair. About me: I am in my early 30's, do not exercise regularly and am a size 4, average fitness. I do not suffer from any leg, feet or back ailments and did not buy these shoes to alleviate any pain. I simply bought into the claims that the shoe will and I quote: "reduce cellulite and slim/tone thighs" and "tone muscles in the feet, legs, buttocks, stomach and back". The shoes even come with a warning tag that states "we recommend that the FitFlop be used progressively to avoid excessive muscle soreness".
First, the shoes run big. I normally wear a 6 and ordered these in a 5. They are still a little loose and definitely wide. If you have narrow feet, you will definitely notice this. Other reviewers have stated that the leather thong will rub between the toes and cause pain/blisters. Since the shoes are fairly big on me, I have not had this problem. The leather thong is a bit "rough", so I do see where this could cause pain in individuals with wider or thicker feet.
I rated the shoes 2 stars because 1) they are comfortable. The sole is very thick and cushy and 2) they are cute. I would have given them 3 stars if the price was a heck of a lot lower. These shoes are not, I repeat not worth $50. They are constructed out of a rubber bottom, a somewhat cheap-feeling foam-like sole and leather thong with elastic sides. I would say $20-$30 is an appropriate price.
I would have given the shoes 4 stars had they performed to my expectations. I have had the shoes for 5 days now. I have worn them daily around the house and when out on errands (I ignored the "warning" about progressive use) and have experienced no soreness or any other hint that these shoes are working my leg muscles. There was no adjustment period for me in getting used to these shoes. In fact, they feel like I am just wearing a thick flip-flop. I felt no sense of instability or losing my balance as others have claimed. After 5 days, I am not expecting visible results or to feel like I had been on a treadmill, but I was expecting--or should I say hoping-- for just a hint of soreness. I will continue to wear these around the house as I have been doing, as they are comfortable, but I do not anticipate any type of workout from the shoe (I promise to edit my review if I am wrong).
All in all, I feel that I have ended up with a rather overpriced flip-flop. Others have claimed that these relieve back pain, sore feet, joint problems etc. That is great for them and the shoe may very well do so. But... if you are like me, just looking for something to help tone your leg muscles, I would not expect this product to do that. At the very least I would wait until the price drops significantly.
