Excellent
I have been playing (read: addicted) to this game for over 2 years now and all i can say is, i want more! I have read a lot of flak aimed at the controls, especially on PC, and honestly i don't see it. Controls are standard WASD movement of almost every PC game in existence, i think people that complain about it are just too used to xbox/ps2 controllers. And to say that nothing can be done solo in this game is just admitting that you are lazy. I'll admit that its not like WoW in as far as soloing is super easy, but it is still far from impossible. Basically this is an MMO geared toward a more mature audience, and believe me if you spend the time you will be rewarded accordingly.

Product was fine; Customer Service is not.
I recently purchased this product for a friend fo mine. I have had no problems with Amazon in the past, but this time for some odd reason they double charged my checking account. Well have just enough to get the game it put my account into an overdrawn status. tried to get a hold of someone at CS but was on the hold for three to four hours. Will not shop at amazon anymore.

Great, highly-recommended game, but I didn't have enough time.
I have played many Final Fantasy games, and XI really brings the world to life by putting real people behind the characters. No more being "stuck" with the same old boring/not-so-boring NPCs, and more of a dynamic atmosphere. I like it. Like most MMORPGs, there is a lot designed to draw you in and keep you here.
As a white mage, I found death and soloing two particularly harsh aspects of my early life. After you get beyond level 10 (what most consider the stage where you are learning your limits and abilities), parties change things up a lot. I am sad I did not get to play much longer than this though.
I will leave you with my last warning: This game takes time. Real time. If you expect to get anywhere in this game, you have to set aside some time to play. Even walking places requires at least 10-20 minutes of your time, making sure your character doesn't get attacked by the stray goblin in the middle of nowhere. If you do not have time to devote to this game, wait until you do. I didn't have this kind of time to devote on a day-to-day basis -- not even a weekend-ly (is that a word?) basis because of college.
If you can get past all that, and if you are even remotely interested in XI, do some research, find a well-populated server, and go play! Though you may say its graphics are dated, I assure you it will still impress. And it's always better to try -everything- now for 20 dollars before you bolt in for 100 a year.
Best of luck.

Addictive
This was the best game of its time very highly addictive. Impossible to stop playing, just as impossible to make enough gil to keep your character upgraded through the levels. I spent lots of real money buying gil from the various chinese sites.
Staying up till 5 and 6am 5 days a week and not even sleeping on days off from work. Adventuring with your linkshell on never ending thirst to quest and level up. I played for about a year after the game was first released, leveling up a monk and started working on a palodin.
One day I came home from work and just cancelled my account. You can re-activate your account for 3 months but I never did.
Its been 4 or 5 years since I last played but from what I can tell now, other then im glad I was able to quit is that the game has not changed very much. Grpahics are a bit out dated by today's standards but that just means you dont have to update a modern computer too much.
I still play games to this day but have been carful to steer clear of FF, WoW and will keep clear of Spore for the same reasons.

Final Fantasy Online Gaming
The game is alot of fun and enjoyable. The only thing I would like to see is that the cost of $12.95 per month after a 30 Trail period be entered in the discription so that future purchasers know.
