Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great results with a networking expert
This camera can cause frustrations when one is not educated enough about IP settings, Gateway, and many other technicalities, including ISP service requirements to be able to program the camera for browser viewing and knowing how to "ping" your Windows XP system to track the wireless progress of settings made.

I gave up, and found a friend in the very NETWORKING profession.
Even that person and his colleague arrived and spent 3 hours to make everything work, and the ISP (internet service provider) had to change the account to a "bridged account" with a stationary IP assigned.

with a crystal clear video live of our wind turbine readout in kilowatts.

Its a fabulous camera when a friend can set it up for you at that very reasonable price, and more cameras could be added.
Our advice: FIND A FRIEND who is on top of networking.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Bad experience x2
I purchased two of these and both were defective. Software install was easy and instructions were simple but the camera could not be found by the either of my PCs with cable direct to the PC or through my router. The unit appeared to work with lights showing LAN connect but the software could not find the camera. The service number answered quickly but could not help and eventually cut me off.
Unit 2 powered up and worked on the same PCs with direct connect or through my router. Wireless did not connect. Left on for 24hrs it would no longer work with any connection. When working the unit ran quite warm and resolution was poor. My old cell phone camera is MUCH better.
This product is not ready for the home market.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good for starter camera
Price was right for this camera, but miss some of the remote control features available on higher price cameras. Like the software that comes with it.

Include software: D-Link D-View software is more comprehensive and has better features for alerting. I like the other s/w interface with IP-View better (simpler), but the alerting features were not as good as D-Link D-View.

Also the include manuals in .pdf are poorly written, with bad grammar and provide barely any additional information, but I did find the support documents on the D-Link web site very helpful.

Overall I can recommend this camera as a basic starter camera to begin home security system.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Works as advertised
Although, not as I expected.
I have a webcam already attached to my computer running a motion sensitive software called HomeWatcher...I expected these cameras to operate the same way...They don't.
First, setting up the cameras was simple easy. I did have some problems, but that was my network...After I reconfigured my network, I can now view my cameras (I have 4 of them) on my home network and from work. The only thing that tripped me up was I had to set the second HTTP port to be the same as the port I was using for the virtual server setting for my router.
The image quality is excelent. Comparing it to my friend's Linksys IP cam, the D-link blows it away.
The IP-View software works well and performs flawlessly, either from the home network or from my work computer at work. I can't say as much for the DView software though....what were they thinking with this piece of junk software? It looks like it was programmed with a crowbar and sledgehammer. And what's with the inability to move the window around the screen, huh?
What I don't like is what I hinted at above....I want motion detecting and image saving so that I can view the images remotely as posted to a webpage...I dont' want a video recorded of the action...you can't view those so easily on a webpage...I want a picture...
Oh well, I'll see if there is something that can do this in the after market...
All in all, this is a good product that works as advertised...definatly worth a "buy"...and judging from the people at work who enjoy watching my cat pass in front of the camera, it looks like others want this camera also!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Not sure what the problems are
I've read the other reviews and am surprised. Mine works great both wireless and wired. Perhaps one of the problems is that people look for a wireless signal when it is in the wired mode for setup. The device turns the wireless off when connected via the ethernet cable so you can't continue with the wireless setup until you disconnect the ethernet cable. Other than that it works great on my network which uses WPA security.
