Okay for a cheap system.
I bought this system for my office because of a bad TV purchase and was surprised at how well it works in most areas. This unit is a great DVD player. The picture that it sends is clear and the sound it generates (5.1 Dolby Digital) is very nice. The speakers feel cheap but they do produce nice sound IN MY OFFICE (which is 10'x10'). The base is not very noticable, but all in all it sounds fine.
Now comes that reason for the lower rating.
To begin with, the unit has to be turned on and off at the receiver. The remote does not have this function. Very frustrating. The two audio in jacks in the back will only play through the front two speakers, unless you turn simulated prologic on. The unit hums and sputters and makes very wierd noises through the speakers when the functions are being changed or the volume is being changed or the inputs are being changed. The display is severly lacking when it comes to useful information. It typically displays AUX 1 or other words that make no sense at all.
All in all, after I hook this unit up I was feeling cheated, until I saw a mail in rebate on a different website. After the rebate, this unit was not very expensive and I can replace it in a year without feeling too bad.
