Working Overtime
: :Even in a genre oversaturated with fast-jamming electric guitarists, this Australian singer-songwriter's improvisations are always original and occasionally revelatory. He's a surprisingly soulful singer, in a less-polished, B.B. King sort of way, and his constant solos never drown the focus of a catchy acoustic song like 'Mean Old Airplane' or an electric stomper like 'Stormy Seas.' Ultimately, this 1993 CD is for guitar aficionados--Dave Hole's playing mimics his voice perfectly on the title track, and his slide achieves an Allman Brothers-style moan on Big Bill Broonzy's standard 'Keys to the Highway.' --Steve Knopper

Rough Diamond

Since his recording debut fifteen years ago, Dave's records and live performances have drawn raves from countless international publications, and garnered legions of fans. His newest recording, 'Rough Diamond,' amply reaffirms his title as the reigning master of the slide guitar. His fret-melting guitar riffs are infused with the same ...

The Datsuns
: :New Zealand rockers the Datsuns fearlessly hitch the sound of Antipodean forebears AC/DC, the Saints, and the Scientists onto the stripped-back blues howl of the White Stripes. In their gloriously simple world, riffs are basic, guitar solos heroic, and lyrical concerns don't stretch much beyond bad women who've done these volume-addled longhairs wrong. A song like 'MF from Hell' demonstrates where the Datsuns are coming from: guitars chug while singer Dolf De Datsun yelps and delivers a big, dumb chorus that would've made the Ramones proud. There are touches of Mudhoney ('Lady' is ...

The Day After Yesterday
:Album Description:Japanese pressing of the 2005 album features the 14 original tracks plus a bonus track 'Love is the Answer'. Victor. 2005. :Onetime working-class dog Rick Springfield has kept his nose to the grindstone since his early-80s 'Jessie's Girl'/'General Hospital'/Tiger Beat-centerfold heyday. It seems as though he's realized he's making as big of a dent in the national consciousness as former co-stars Luke and Laura. Thus The Day After Yesterday, a disc of covers that, despite Springfield's raspy best efforts, communicates a certain last-ditch desperation. 'I wanted to see if it would be ...
