I loved this unit... until it was stolen
I had this for about 2 weeks before it was stolen. It was my own stupid fault for leaving the faceplate on, but I hate carrying the face plates around. I was quite bummed because I really loved the stereo. It was a major improvement over my previous ipod-compatible alpine deck.
My only complaint is I would have liked to see some additional security on it. The faceplate security just doesn't work for me, but that's all that's offered for most units. I'd rather see someone invent some kind of stereo-CLUB type of thing that just makes it really hard to steal the stereo, rather than have to carry the faceplate around everywhere and chance losing it, or breaking it.
When I can afford it, I'll buy another and hope the damage done to my center console isn't so bad that I can't install another.

The Alpine X100 has Exceeded My Expectations....
I use the X100 with a 16G USB thumb drive onto which I've transferred my entire classical collection (250+ CDs). The active display and large rotary knob make searching for a particular Composer/Symphony/Movement (i.e. folders and subfolders) very intuitive. Other head units had 'dot matrix' displays which were hard to read and only showed a few characters of the titles; on most, trying to navigate up and down the file structure was an exercise in frustration. I don't know of any digital car receiver on the market that can come close to this Alpine when it comes to ease of use. This unit has a good amp - my car speakers never sounded better. When the car ignition is turned off and back on, the X100 remembers where it left off in the music. A slight drawback is that you have to read the manual to learn how to set the presets on the radio bands (takes 10 seconds once you learn how). Automatic scrolling takes care of extremely long titles but it would be nice if Alpine would add a second (smaller) font to the display. I have never used an iPod with the Alpine and I never will - the thumb drive is cheaper and works perfectly. I transferred music to the drive using Apple's iTunes and my PC.

so, far so good. It accesses my play lists quickly and shows all details smoothly.

Perfect for iPod
Really the best option on the market to control an iPod. I have an amp and sub installed and things sound great. I am not one who cares much about video, but I do think it will satisfy most looking for those features. I know the next few years are going to bring many more options to the table, but for now, I don't think you need to look further. BTW, I do notice better performance via USB with my iPhone but works great with the older iPods too with the additional cable. I also really enjoy the integration with Sirius and the options it provides. Enjoy!
