Sanders' Truckstop

by: Ed Sanders

: :Imagine you're at your local country bar, when some longhaired fella takes the stage. He doesn't look quite right, but you figure he's ok, especially when he and his band start playing some twangin' honky-tonk tunes. But then you start listening to the lyrics, and holy mother-of-kinky-friedman, danged if he isn't making fun of...you! This 1970 album of satirical barroom stomps and cry-in-your-beer ballads didn't make Ed Sanders any friends in Nashville, but they just might make you ...

We Have Come for Your Children

by: The Dead Boys

: :Much like the Sex Pistols, the Dead Boys enjoyed an outsized reputation among punk rock enthusiasts despite having made very few recordings. Part of that is because, like the Pistols, they featured a charismatic frontman in Stiv Bators, and part of that is because, like the Sex Pistols, what they recorded was so good! This is the second of the two albums they released during their short career, and while it's not quite the blow to the solar ...

Hampton Comes Alive

by: Phish

: :There is a level of trust given to Phish by their fanatical audience that is quite liberating to the band. The folks stroll into the venue and give themselves up to the band, allowing the musicians complete freedom to take them wherever the moment dictates. Anyone who saw Phish during their club-playing days can attest that the quartet has always operated under that principle: Fishman was singing 'Purple Rain' and playing vacuum cleaners long before fan devotion and major-label ...

Weird Tales of the Ramones

by: The Ramones

:Album Description:The supreme godfathers of punk-face it, they were on their third album before the Sex Pistols even broke-are true American originals, and their sensational end-of-the-century juggernaut is chronicled as never before in this career-spanning collection. Reducing and scrambling multiple strains of early rock 'n' roll and pop into a signature chainsaw of sound, the Ramones' loud, fast, and hard legacy rocketed out of NYC's CBGB in the early '70s and changed the face of modern music. Johnny Ramone, ...

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
